Es ist Frühling, diese Serie der 12 von 12 erzählt davon, Blumen und Bäume zu Hauf'. Spring time is here at last, there is no denying it anymore, lots of flowers, blossoms, pastures this time.

6.10 am - Morgendämmerung auf meinem Arbeitsweg - dawning of the day on my way to work .

6:30 am - Blühender Baum vor meinem Büro - blossoming tree near my office.

11.05 am - Mein sehr alter Barometer, der aber immer noch sehr zuverlässig die Wetterveränderungen anzeigt. My very old barometer (?) who predicts changes in weather quite accurate.

11:45 am - "Bilder einer Ausstellung", bei mir zu Hause - "Pictures of an Exhibition" in my livingroom .

13;05 pm - Besuch bei meiner Mutter, auch in ihrem fortgeschrittenen Alter noch eine passionierte Gartenfrau. Visiting my mother, still a passionate gardener in her old days.

14:15 pm - Auf einer Fahrt überland mit ihr, hier muss es vor 100 Jahren genau so ausgesehen haben. Taking her for a drive - where time stood still and everything looks like it used to 100 years ago. 14:55 pm - Diese Kühe zeigen Interesse an einem Photo-Shooting. Aber: Kühe ohne Hörner sind nur halbe Kühe. These girls seem to be quite interested in a photo shooting. But cows with no horns are not real cows anymore.

15:15 Grün und Rosa, der Inbegriff von Frühling. Apfelblüten - sind sie nicht einfach wunderhübsch? Green + pink = spring. Appleblossoms - are the not just absolutely lovely?

15:42 am - noch mehr Frühling.

8:10 pm - Wieder zu Hause, noch ein wenig Lesezeit ergattert. Home again and found a little bit of free time to prepare myself for my english lesson.

08:15 pm - Der Osterhase leistet mir dabei Gesellschaft. Easter bunny is keeping me company, getting ready to hide the eggs quite soon.

Here's my 12 of 12 with many thanks to Chad Darnell who invented this project and has been hosting it for the last four years.

In diesem Monat fällt der 12. auf einen Samstag. Das mag ich, weil ich dann genügend Zeit und Musse habe, Bilder zu machen. This month 12th is a Saturday, that's nice because it leaves me a fair amount of time to make pictures.

10:04 am - Der Zehn-Uhr-Bus bringt mich in die Stadt zum samstäglichen Marktgang. Je nach Zeit trifft man bestimmte Leute, man kann sich also einrichten ... The Ten-o'clock-bus takes me into town to the weekly market. Depending on which bus you take, you meet someone or you can avoid meeting them ...:-))



10:30 am - In dieser beliebten Bäckerei kaufe ich oft den Sonntagszopf. Am Samstagmorgen ist sie immer gerappelt voll mit Kunden, nicht selten stehen sie bis in den Hauseingang ... Die Wartezeit dauert aber nie lange, die Verkäuferinnen sind sehr effizient und trotzdem freundlich.
I often buy our Sundaybread, a plaited loaf, in this bakery. I'm not the only one and so on Saturday mornings the bakery is usually packed with people. Still you never have to wait for a long time, the shop assistants are very efficient and nevertheless very friendly, too.

11:00 am - Zu meinem Samstagmorgen gehört ein Milchkaffe im Glas hier. Dazu die Zeitung, hier ein Artikel über die aktuelle Photo-Ausstellung "Stieglitz, Steichen, Strand" ... sehr schade, dass New York so abgelegen ist. Coffee here is a must, and reading the newspaper in peace takes me close to paradise. Reading an article on the current exhibition in the Metropolitan Museum, what a pity New York is so far away ...

11:45 am - Ein Fenster spiegelt sich im Fenster eines Secondhand-Buchladens. Leider ist der Laden fast nie geöffnet und gibt auch seine Oefffnungszeiten nicht bekannt. Er musste vor kurzem an eine weniger gute Geschäftslage umziehen ... wen wundert's. Schade, er führt ein grosses und gutes Angebot. A window reflecting in the window of a secondhand bookstore. Unfortuneately, the store opens rarely and doesn't announce any opening hours. No wonder it had to move to a less frequented area recently. Great pity though, once open you find tons of great books there.

11:55 am - Noch eine Spiegelung im Fenster einer Druckerei. Hier wird noch wie zu Gutenbergs Zeiten gedruckt.
Another reflection in the window of a printing company. The writing on the turqoise sign says: "Printing the way Gutenberg used to".

2:45 pm - Mein Sohn verbringt nur jedes zweite Wochenende zu Hause. Gewaschene Socken sind ein untrügliches Zeichen dafür. My younger son spends every other weekend at home. These socks are an unmistakable sign that he is home.

2:55 pm - Mein Gemüsegarten liegt noch ganz brach und das Wildbienenhotel ist noch nicht in Betrieb. My kitchen garden lies bleak and bare and the hotel for the wild bees is not yet in use.


3:15 pm - Genuss ist Wolle, Sonne und etwas freie Zeit. Pure bliss: wool, sun and a little bit of time to knit.



4:10 pm - Die letzten Überreste des Winters auf meinem Balkon. Wenn die Sonne so schön scheint, ist es Zeit, dem Frühling Platz zu machen. The last remains of autumn on my balcony. When the sun shines as lovely as she does today, it is time to make way for spring.

4:25 pm - Primeln künden ihn an mit ihrer wundervollen Form und Farbe. Ich kann ihnen nie wiederstehen. Primulas announcing spring with their lovely shape and colour. I can never resist and have to get a few.

6:30 pm - Die Tage werden wieder länger, nun ist es bereits gegen halb sieben noch so hell, das man Bilder ohne Blitz machen kann. Days grow longer and around half past six it is still bright enough to make pictures without a flashlight.

Schon wieder Zeit für die 12 von 12. Time again for 12 of 12 - many thanks to Chad Darnell, whose great idea this project is.

Wie jedes Jahr haben steht auf unserem Esstisch einen Adventskranz mit roten Kerzen. During advent time we light one more candle on the advent wreath every sunday until Christmas.


Ich weiss nicht genau, worauf diese Vögel warten, Futter kanns nicht sein, davon hat es genügend. These birds have been sitting on that tree for ages, looks as if they are waiting for something to happen. Can't be food because there is enough laid out for them.


Diese kleinen "Schneewannen" sind der Rest des grossen Schnees, der Mitte November hier gefallen ist. These funny little "snow tubs" form the rest of the big snowfall we had here around the middle of November.



Hinter meiner Bushaltestelle fliesst der Wildbach friedlich an winterlichen Bäumen vorbei. Behind the busstop the "wild brook" flows gently past wintery trees.


Dem Bus entstiegen finde ich mich mitten in einer Art Weihnachstspiel, das in der ganzen Stadt Szenen aus der Zeit von Christi Geburt nachstellt, sogar Kamele finden ihren Weg hierher ...
Off the bus I find myself in the middle of a nativity show in town. Camels coming up ...





... und der Römer ruft zur Volkszählung auf ... and the roman calls for census.


In den Läden wird man gleich wieder in die Gegenwart katapultiert, es glimmert und glänzt und überall finden sich lauter schön und weniger schön kitschige Kleinigkeiten, die auch zu Weihnachten gehören. In the shops you end up in the present at once and can't avoid all these more or little less kitschy objects that belong to Christmas, too.






Am Abend besuchen wir Freunde, die die Oeffnung ihres Adventsfenster mit Kürbissuppe und Glühwein feiern (man merke: es ist wirklich der 12. ... ) In the evening we visit friends who open their beautifully prepared advent window and offer some lovely pumpkin soup and hot spiced wine (note: it IS the 12th today ....)


Es ist sehr kalt und es tut gut, sich am Feuer wärmen zu können. It is very cold and nice to have a fire to keep warm at.


Auf unserem Weg nach Hause kommen wir an diesem besonders schön beleuchteten Haus vorbei, und es ist klar, dass bald Weihnachten ist. On our way home we pass by some more angels and lights, making it quite clear that Christmas is near.

Ich bin wieder spät dran mit meinen 12 of 12, deshalb nur wenig Text ... I'm late again this month, so I'll not fiddle with too many words. As always many thanks to Chad Darnell who invented and hosts this project. See more 12 of 12ers all over the world here.

8:20 am - Die Morgensonne bahnt sich ihren Weg durch den Nebel. Morning sun tries to get through the mist.

8:45 am - Es hat geklappt, die Sonne hat den Nebel bezwungen und malt ein schönes Muster durch die Vorhänge. She won, shining brightly now and painting a lovely pattern on the curtains.

11:45 am - Es ist (Persimon)-Khaki-Season, herrlich in Farbe, Form und Geschmack. November is khaki-season over here, wonderful in colour, form and taste.


1:30 pm - Jetzt ist es so warm, dass ich meine Teepause auf dem Balkon und im T-Shirt machen kann. It is so hot now that I can have my tea on the balcony almost in my summer dress.

4.50 pm - Kurz vor Sonnenuntergang, die Sicht ist gut, so dass man die Alpen (mit Eigernordewand) klar sehen kann.

Shortly before sunset, very clear air allows a view on the alps (including the Eiger North Face...)

5:10 pm - Nach Hause kommen und eine Tasse Tee zubereiten und das Paradies ist nahe ... die rote Teebüchse begleitet mich seit meiner WG-Zeit, d.h. seit mehr als dreissig Jahren.

A cup of tea is pure bliss and very often the first thing I make when I come home. The red tin is a faithful companion, it has accompanied me for the last thirty years of my life.

Dieses Mal ist alles etwas anders. Ich habe den 12. Oktober weit weg von zu Hause am südlichsten Ende von Italien in der Nähe von Gallipoli verbracht und so den Sommer etwas verlängert. Leider hatte ich nur eine kleine Kompact-Kamera dabei und bin mit der Bildqualität nicht so zufrieden.
"And now for something completely different": I spent the 12th October far away from home at the very southern end of Italy, enjoying a few more sunny summer days. Unfortunately I only had a small compact camera with me.



8:20 am - Auch hier darf ein guter Kaffee am Morgen nicht fehlen. Und ja, ich stehe auch in den Ferien gerne beizeiten auf, damit ich etwas vom Tag habe. A good coffee to start off into a new day. And yes, I like getting up quite early when I'm on vacation, to make my days last longer.


8:35 am - Blick aus dem Küchenfenster auf den Balkon. French windows in the kitchen, opening on to one of the balconies.



8:40 am - Ferienzeit ist Lesezeit. Meistens spare ich mir für diese Tage im Jahr ein dickes Buch auf, das ich schon lange lesen wollte. Dieses Jahr ist es "Melnitz" von Charles Lewinsky, das die Geschichte einer jüdischen Familie in der Schweiz über die Zeitdauer von hundert Jahren beschreibt. Mein Fazit: sehr empfehlenswerte Lektüre.
Holydaytime is reading time. Usually I take a big book with me that I have been wanting to read for quite some time. This time it is "Melnitz" bei Charles Lewinsky. It tells the story of a jewish family living in Switzerland, starting in 1871 and ending 1945. There seems to be an English translation coming up soon.




10:12 am - Ferienzeit ist n a t ü r l i c h auch Strickzeit. Ich hatte nicht weniger als fünf Projekte im Gepäck. Fertig gestellt wurden zwei, eines davon sind die Endpaper Mitts für meine Marktfrau.
Holidaytime is by all means knitting time, too. Not less than five projects I had with me and completed two of them. One is a pair of Endpaper Mitts for my vegetable seller.


11:30 - Damit man vom völlig verschlafenen Nest am Meer auch mal ins Nachbardorf gelangen kann, haben wir Fahrräder gemietet.
In order to be able to get away from the tiny place by the sea we rented bikes.


11:40 am - Auf dem Weg ins Nachbardorf - das Meer hat wirklich diese Farbe hier. On my way to the next village, the colour of the sea around here is spectacular.

7:55 pm - Mein Abendessen: Spigola arrosta - ein wunderbar zarter grillierter Fisch in einem Restaurant direkt am Meer, wo bei hohem Seegang schon mal auch etwas Gischt auf dem Teller landen könnte. My supper: Spigola arrosta - a very delecious and tender grilled fish in a restaurant right beside the sea. With a rough sea the spray comes quite near.

8:50 pm - Danach. Nein, die habe ich nicht alle allein aufgegessen. Afterwards. And no, I didn't eat all these on my own.

6:17 pm - Ferien am Meer sind keine Ferien ohne ein Sonnenuntergangsbild ... last but not least a picture of the sunset belongs to every vacation by the seaside ...
